The claim that looking at a phone puts twenty-seven kilos through your neck has been repeated so often that it now functions as common knowledge. It comes from a single modelling paper, it describes a static calculation rather than a lived body, and it has never been shown to predict who gets neck pain.
What is worth paying attention to
TODO(client): expand this section. The argument to make is the same one the posture article makes — duration rather than angle — with two or three concrete things to do between meetings.
- Change the angle before the angle changes you: roughly every half hour
- Give the upper back its extension back; the neck stops compensating
- Turn your head to the end of its range a few times a day
